FLOOR MAINTENANCE, CLEANING AND CARE
Maintenance for Newly Finished Floors
Use care with your floor the first two to three weeks. Do not wear street shoes (stones wedged in shoes can make indents and long scratches in finish as you walk). Do not drag or pull anything across your floor. Boxes left on newly finished floors can stick to the finish. The longer you can postpone moving furniture the better. Always set your furniture in place, never drag or pull across the floor. You should use floor glides under all of your furniture to protect your hardwood floor. Woodwise has a large assortment of quality floor glides for you to choose from. Whether you use ours or buy them elsewhere; they are a necessity for the life of your floor. DO NOT PUT RUGS OR THROWS DOWN FOR TWO TO THREE WEEKS AFTER THE LAST COAT HAS BEEN APPLIED.
Cleaning and Care
DO NOT MOP YOUR FLOOR FOR THE FIRST MONTH. Your wood floor is easy to care for. Wipe up food and beverage spills with a damp dishcloth. Simply vacuum or sweep, using a softer broom on a regular basis. Do not use bristle type brooms as they can scratch your finish. Using one of the approved hardwood floor cleaning products will keep your floor clean and lustrous for many years. Damp mop your floor, never use a string mop, they allow too much water to sit on the floor. 1-cup vinegar to 1-gallon water works well for intense cleaning jobs once or twice a year. More often could dull your finish. DO NOT USE MURPHY'S OIL SOAP, PLEDGE FOR FLOORS, THE "NEW" WET SWIFTER OR ANY PRODUCT WITH OIL OR WAX IN IT (read the label!). Both Bona Kemi and Glitsa Clean are excellent hardwood floor cleaners. They are pH balanced, biodegradable and each has a nice light fragrance. Both are available at Woodwise.
